Basic tools
- the tool kit supplied with the motorcycle – check that you really have it,
- combination spanners or a small ratchet with sockets in the sizes your motorcycle uses,
- hex and torx keys,
- pliers and a small screwdriver,
- spare fuses with the correct ratings.
Before packing the tools, try at home which sizes you really need on your motorcycle. You will save space and weight.
Flat tyre
For tubeless tyres there are repair kits with plugs and a small compressor or cartridges. A plug repair is an emergency solution that will get you to a workshop. Wheels with inner tubes, for example models with spoked wheels, cannot be repaired this way – roadside assistance will help there. Find out in advance what wheels and tyres your motorcycle has.
Little things that save a trip
- cable ties of various lengths,
- duct tape or strong fabric tape,
- a piece of wire,
- a head torch or small flashlight,
- a rag and work gloves,
- chain lubricant for longer trips.
Safety and health
- first-aid kit,
- a reflective vest,
- water and something to eat,
- a power bank and a phone cable.
Documents and contacts
Always carry your driving licence and vehicle registration certificate, and abroad also the green card. Save the number of roadside assistance and your workshop in your phone. Copies of documents on your phone or in the cloud are also handy.
Where to store it
Tools and the repair kit belong in a sturdy pouch under the seat or in a side case so that they do not rattle or scratch the paint. Keep the first-aid kit and the vest within reach, not at the bottom of the luggage.
Know your motorcycle
The best tool is knowledge. Go through the manual and try at home to remove the seat, find the fuses and check the chain. Learning this on a roadside in the dark is much harder. If you are unsure, call us at Royal Enfield GARAGE.
